Posted by Jeremy Dunham, Senior Community Manager, Zipper Interactive    Events and Promotions SOCOM 4
For those of you attending PAX East at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Massachusetts this coming weekend, we have great news – you can play SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs!

Available to all attendees during the entire three-day weekend, SOCOM 4 will have its own booth (
#212, next to the PAX Show Store) that boasts 16 kiosks and four awesome maps that you won’t be able to play anywhere else until our game hits stores on April 19 – including our GameStop-exclusive pre-order incentive map, Abandoned!

As an added bonus,
anyone who plays SOCOM 4 at PAX East will be given a special beta voucher for SOCOM 4 that guarantees them access to our beta, beginning March 29. So make sure you try the game and don’t forget to grab your voucher on the way out.

Practice as much as you can on Friday and Saturday while you’re at it because
on Sunday, starting at 2pm, we’re holding an official SOCOM 4 PAX East Tournament to determine the best squad of the show. Once the tournament kicks off, we’ll be allowing the first 64 players that line up (first come, first serve) the chance to unite and try their chance at winning unique PAX East SOCOM 4 Championship trophies. When all is said and done, the winning four-person squad will earn their special reward after multiple rounds of both standard and classic rule sets.

Keep watch on our official
Twitter and Facebook pages for the latest pictures from the show, and don’t forget to visit our SOCOM.com forums to discuss PAX East and more with your fellow fans. Have fun!

SOCOM 4 Bomb Squad and Beta Details

Posted by Chris Roper, Community Specialist, Zipper Interactive    Headline News, Beta Program SOCOM 4

Competitive multiplayer has always been the core of the SOCOM franchise, and SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs takes it further than ever before with modes and options that both new recruits and veterans alike will enjoy. We've previously covered three of our four competitive modes -- Suppression, Last Defense and Uplink -- and today we're excited to unveil our fourth mode, Bomb Squad.

In Bomb Squad, Insurgents have planted a number of bombs around the map and the Spec Ops team must defuse them all before time runs out. What makes Bomb Squad special is that it features the unique Bomb Technician character, played by one member of the Spec Ops team, who is charged with defusing the explosives. He carries both an automatic shotgun and a mobile grenade launcher and is very heavily armored, making him a deadly force on his own; that said, the technician is still an open target any time he turns his back to defuse Insurgent bombs. Succeeding in Bomb Squad requires tactics, teamwork, patience and confidence to get the job done, all pillars of the overall SOCOM experience.

When can you get your hands on Bomb Squad, you ask? Well, you'll be able to try out all four of our modes on two maps in our upcoming beta! The SOCOM 4 Multiplayer Beta will include each of the game's competitive multiplayer modes -- Suppression, Last Defense, Uplink and Bomb Squad -- all playable on the maps "Port Authority" and "Assault & Battery". And of course, you'll be able to play each of our modes in either of their Standard or Classic variants.

The SOCOM 4 Multiplayer Beta will roll out in four separate phases. It'll begin with a small, private group and then expand weekly from there until it's freely available to everyone! Here's the schedule for each of the beta's rollout phases:

  • On March 15th, a private beta goes live. We’ll be contacting eligible players soon.
  • Beginning March 22nd, PlayStation Plus members will gain access to the beta.
  • On March 29th, anyone with a beta code included with Killzone 3 gains entry.
  • Starting April 5th, the beta will be freely downloadable to anyone via PlayStation Network.

The beta is scheduled to run until April 13th, at which point the servers will be taken down in preparation of SOCOM 4's retail release on April 19th! Click here to discuss Bomb Squad and the beta on the official SOCOM forums.

SOCOM 4 Full Deployment Edition and Covert Missions

Posted by Jeremy Dunham, Senior Community Manager, Zipper Interactive    Headline News SOCOM 4
If you caught GameTrailers TV last night then congratulations! You had an exclusive first look at two previously-unannounced goodies from SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs – both of which we’re going into detail about right now.

The first new element ties directly into gameplay and it’s one that we’re really thrilled about. In select missions during the solo campaign, players take control of female South Korean 707th covert operations expert “45.” Acting as the team’s primary form of reconnaissance, 45 slinks into various locales under the cover of night to capture valuable intel and sabotage enemy operations. Armed with silenced weapons and a handy stealth meter that lets players know how visible they are to hostile forces, 45 is a sneaky badass that adds a lot to the already-intense SOCOM 4 experience. We really think you’re going to enjoy playing her missions and we’re glad to finally let that secret out of the bag.

Part two of our double announcement is just as exciting! In addition to the standard version of SOCOM 4 that you’ll find in stores across America on April 19, there will also be a special limited run SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs Full Deployment Edition. Priced at $149.99, the SOCOM 4 FDE is packed with all kinds of awesome. What kind of awesome are we talking about? Check it:

  • SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs video game on Blu-ray disc
  • PlayStation Move Motion Controller
  • PlayStation Move Navigation Controller
  • PlayStation Move sharp shooter
  • PlayStation Eye Camera

At the heart of this limited edition bundle is the PlayStation Move sharp shooter, giving you pinpoint precision and a streamlined and authentic design. On top of all that, you also get easily accessible buttons, responsive digital trigger, realistic pump-action, a firing mode selector, adjustable shoulder stock and convenient access to the navigation controller. Sold separately, the contents of the SOCOM 4 Full Deployment Edition are valued at nearly $220, making its $149.99 price tag a savings of more than 30%!

Regardless of which version of SOCOM 4 you purchase, you can still pre-order it at participating retailers to receive two unique slug-powered shotguns (one each for both the Spec Ops and Insurgent teams). Of course, folks who pre-order SOCOM 4 at GameStop get the shotgun plus the exclusive Suppression map, “Abandoned,” inspired by the classic map of the same name from SOCOM 1 and II.

The SOCOM 4 information train isn’t done yet! We’ll be back again next week with a ton of new details including the dates in which our multiplayer beta kicks off and a few other pleasant surprises to boot. See you then!

Declassified: SOCOM 4 Co-Op

Posted by Chris Roper, Community Specialist, Zipper Interactive    Headline News SOCOM 4
As the April 19th release date for SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs quickly approaches we're happy to go into detail about everything the game has to offer, which is quite a lot! In addition to its cinematic single-player campaign and highly addictive online competitive multiplayer, SOCOM 4 also features a cooperative multiplayer mode where up to five people can play through a number of dynamic missions set up specifically for co-op play.

SOCOM 4's cooperative mode features two main game types: "Takedown" and "Espionage." Takedown charges your team with scouring an enemy-filled location in search of opposing VIPs that you must neutralize however you can. Espionage turns the focus to intelligence gathering, where you must use teamwork to track down enemy data and sabotage their local operations.

Before each co-op mission begins, you're able to adjust both the overall difficulty and the density of the enemy soldiers positioned on the map. But even at its easiest, SOCOM 4's cooperative mode has been designed to be challenging – as you progress, you'll need to use teamwork by calling out enemies and objectives to your squadmates.

Today's co-op unveil isn't the last you'll hear of SOCOM 4 this week. Tune in to GameTrailers TV tonight and learn how stealth plays a big part in the game's campaign in addition to another special announcement fans won't want to miss!
